CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Scout Motors is unveiling two distinct expressions of the Scout® Traveler™ SUV concept, demonstrating how one capable vehicle can support very different kinds of adventure.
The new Mountainside concept presents a warm, refined interpretation of the Traveler SUV, while the reimagined trail-ready concept leans into its rugged, off-road ready character. The two Traveler concepts will make their first public appearance together alongside the Scout® Terra™ pickup truck at the Jazz Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Experience, September 4 to 6, 2026 in Snowmass, Colorado.
“The Traveler is designed for a wide range of lives, from everyday family adventures to serious off-road exploration,” said Chris Benjamin, Chief Design Officer at Scout Motors. “Mountainside and the trail-ready concept show two vastly different expressions of the same authentic Scout character. By expanding our Traveler concept vehicle lineup, we’re helping customers envision how Scout vehicles can fit into their lives while staying true to the capability, authenticity and versatility that define the Scout brand.”
Two Traveler concepts. Two expressions of adventure and capability. Both unmistakably Scout vehicles.
The Mountainside concept: A warmer, more refined Traveler
The new Traveler Mountainside concept explores a more refined, premium expression of the Scout brand while preserving the Traveler SUV’s unmistakable sense of adventure.
Its design evokes the feeling of returning home after a long day outdoors: warm, welcoming, and built around authentic materials that become more personal with time. The Scout Motors’ Color, Materials and Finishes team created the concept using rich natural tones, tactile surfaces, and thoughtfully selected details.
The Morning Dusk exterior finish draws inspiration from the final light of golden hour. Its deep charcoal-brown color reveals subtle golden metallic highlights in direct sunlight. The Mountainside concept also features a panoramic sunroof and 22-inch Vault wheels with an anodized black and brushed finish, paired with 35-inch tires.
Inside, the color palette is Alpine District and features semi-aniline leather which brings a soft, natural character that celebrates the material’s authentic markings. Custom gray woven fabrics feature a subtle plaid inspired by historic Scout vehicle interiors, complemented by recycled walnut trim, warm accent colors and houndstooth patterned fabric on the headliner and pillars.
Rugged, tactile door handles, buttons, and knobs provide physical control of key vehicle functions. Stainless steel speaker covers featuring the Harvester™ grid pattern and a panoramic sunroof completes the interior.
The trail-ready concept: Most rugged showcase
Where Mountainside emphasizes warmth and refinement, the reimagined trail-ready concept showcases the Traveler SUV’s most rugged and capable character.
Its Galvanized Steel exterior finish draws inspiration from raw metal, honest utility, and equipment built to withstand demanding environments. The roof, finished in a color called Canvas, provides contrast and warmth to the functional exterior palette. The trail-ready concept features a collection of off-road-focused concept accessories, including:
- Full-metal front and rear bumpers designed to support off-road utility while preserving approach and departure angles
- An integrated front winch and rear tow hitch
- An elevated roof rack with forward-facing trail lights
- Rock rails
- An exterior spare-tire carrier with integrated fuel caddy
- 18-inch beadlock wheels in a gloss-black and satin-black finish
- 35-inch off-road tires
The black Cabana Top™ roof provides a full open-air experience.
Inside, the Denim District theme draws inspiration from durable American workwear and the Scout brand’s agricultural roots. Brick Red leather covers the instrument panel, seats, armrests, and grab handles, while denim-inspired fabric accents the upper seat surfaces, door panels, and accessory straps.
The result pairs honest, hardworking materials with a modern design sensibility, reinforcing the Traveler SUV’s blend of function, durability, and character.
Preparing for production
Scout Motors is completing construction of its new Production Center in Blythewood, South Carolina, where more than 4,000 employees are planned to assemble the Scout Traveler SUV and Scout Terra pickup truck.
The company is also beginning to test and validate early prototype vehicles as it prepares for production, with customer deliveries expected to begin in 2028.
About Scout Motors
The Scout, originally produced by International Harvester from 1961-80, was the world’s first utility vehicle capable of both off-road adventure and family duty. It was the 8-day-a-week truck. The Scout brand is now an American icon whose heritage is kept alive by a dedicated community of doers who continue to push their vehicles on the farm, in the wilderness, and on family outings.
Scout Motors was formed to craft the next era of trucks and rugged SUVs rooted in the same tradition that made the original Scout vehicle an American icon. Scout Motors is revitalizing a legend and returning manufacturing to American shores.
The company will begin producing initial validation vehicles at its Production Center in Blythewood, South Carolina, in 2026. That effort will continue and mature into 2027, with customer deliveries of new Scout vehicles expected to begin in 2028.
